AKIVI Features
More than just an app or computer program dedicated to viewing photos and videos of the human body, the AKIVI app offers you a genuine pathway to anatomical knowledge. Anatomy is now accessible to all. This is what motivated us to define and develop the features of the AKIVI app as presented on this page.

For every healthcare professional, anatomy plays a central role in their day-to-day work with patients. Understanding and mastering it requires both perseverance and dedication. This means that training must be continuous, progressive and adapted to each student or professional.
AKIVI’s photo and video content can be viewed in 2D and 3D. AKIVI offers the possibility of viewing videos in 3D using your smartphone as a virtual reality headset. In this way, AKIVI makes it possible to understand the three-dimensional architecture of organs, enabling students to improve their clinical deductions. AKIVI is an app that brings together all the tools needed to stimulate visuospatial cognition for learning the anatomy of the human body.
Many other contents have not been certified by professionals. This is why, as anatomy professionals and lecturers, we have decided to address the issue of content certification.
AKIVI is unique in that it concentrates all the resources you need for learning in a single location. AKIVI brings together several innovations:
– Anatomy learning support features (progressive diagrams with commentary, expert feedback from recognized anatomy professionals, real-life work scenarios). This contrasts with 2D or 3D atlases, which lack learning support tools.
– 3D stereoscopic visualization on a smartphone (depth vision). This stands out from flat or relief 3D visualization using an expensive virtual reality headset.
– Production of images based on real human organs (as opposed to graphics that do not fully reflect the reality of the human body).
– Educational content tailored to the learner’s level, instead of generic content for all learners with other available digital resources.
The functionalities of the AKIVI app are a source of additional learning to complement academic education. They are designed to supplement lectures, dissections, tutorials, simulations and operating room classes. AKIVI is a web and mobile application designed for medical students and professionals.
Depending on your level of study and specialization, AKIVI will provide you with tailored content divided into different anatomical regions (digestive system, upper limbs, lower limbs, pelvis, etc.). When signing up to use the AKIVI app, you can choose your level of study. Your AKIVI learning path will be tailored to your level of knowledge.
Created by medical professionals, the content of the AKIVI app (texts, photos and videos) is certified by leading anatomists in the relevant clinical disciplines. All videos, fact sheets and quizzes have been created by AKIVI’s team of lecturers and professors of anatomy –
You can progress at your own pace along your personalized learning path. This gives you the freedom to watch or replay AKIVI content as many times as you like. Your progress is saved between each session.
AKIVI’s pool of quizzes can be used to randomly generate practice tests with corrections. Each course includes assessments to ensure that you have fully acquired the relevant knowledge. This helps you monitor your progress and prepare for university exams. As of July 2023, the AKIVI app includes clinical cases. In other words, some anatomical systems feature pathologies in connection with the relevant lesson.
The AKIVI app offers an immersive experience for learning the anatomy of the human body using 3D video content. This feature, which is usually the preserve of virtual reality headsets, is accessible by using Google Cardboard and your phone. This turns your smartphone into a virtual reality headset. With a Google Cardboard viewer (costing around 10 dollars), you will be able to watch in 3D some of the videos available on the AKIVI app, which feature a small “3D” icon in the top right hand corner.

To make it easier for you to navigate within AKIVI, the following pictograms are used to identify each anatomical system you will learn about.

Example of 2D video content visualization (mobile app screenshots): anatomy of the esophagus. The screen layout includes the pictogram identifying the anatomical system, the orientation and title of the view, captioned dissections or diagrams, and subtitles.
